| Illinois Central 4-8-2 2417 was heading out of New Orleans with train No. 22, the all-night, all-stops local to Memphis, as it crossed the drainage canal on the west limit of the city. The 2417 had been built by Lima in December 1924 and was retired in February 1960, when almost all of the railroad’s remaining steam locomotives were stricken from the roster.
