| There was a new train listed in the June 15, 1976, Amtrak timetable – trains 781 and 782, the Las Vegas Limited. This train departed Los Angeles on Fridays, and returned on Sundays. On May 21, 1976 the inaugural run of train 782 departs Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal to head east to Las Vegas, Nevada. Train 782 departed Los Angeles behind a quartet of E-Units: AMTK E9A 417 (ex-Union Pacific 912), E8B 451 (ex-AMTK 267, PC 4052, nee-NYC 4052), E8B 452 (ex-AMTK 278, PC 4058, nee-NYC 4058) and E9A 416 (ex-UP 911). Unfortunately, after just three short months, low ridership caused the Las Vegas Limited to be canceled. |
