Testing a CP AC4400CWM
Union Pacific AC4400CW 6280 was beginning to smoke it up as it towed an unidentified Canadian Pacific AC4400CWM on the Wabtec/GE test track back to the plant in Fort Worth. The 6280 had been built in June 1995 as Southern Pacific 231. It was at Wabtec/GE waiting to be modified into a C44CWM and it was pressed into service for testing the CP unit, which has just been upgraded from an AC4400CW. The CP loco rides on steerable trucks and has an enlarged fuel tank with an EMD-style air tank, but the fuel tank/air reservoir modification was performed before the loco arrived here. This unit was hand-lettered CP 8067, but this probably won’t be its real road number.
