| Louisville & Nashville train No. 6, the northbound HUMMING BIRD, was awaiting its 10:40 A.M. departure from Canal Street Station in New Orleans for Cincinnati The train consisted of E7A 761, a 48-seat coach with a 10-seat smoking lounge, two 60-seat coaches, a 48-seat dining car, two more 60-seat coaches, and a 52-seat tavern-lounge car. It's October 1948 and the train has been in operation for two years. It was inaugurated on 17 November 1946 and discontinued on 9 January 1969. The locomotive pictured here was built in April 1945 as the 461A, and was renumbered 761 in 1946. It was retired on 8 February 1969 and traded-in to EMD. (approximate date of photo) |
