NYSW GP20 #2066 - New York, Susquehanna & Western
Nice color sllide taken by Douglas J. Fear of the New York, Susquehanna & Western GP20 #2066 in its "bumblebee" paint scheme. Built by EMD in October of 1961 as Toledo, Peoria & Western, it eventually found its way to the NYSW roster. Note the extremely small and modest "NYS&W" lettering under the cab window number as the only logo present on the unit which it wore until its scrapping in 2014.

Tom Beckett General NYSW owned the TP&W for several years in the late 90's/early 2000's, and brought some of their GP 20's east. There were two others that made it to the NYSW, 2062 and 2064. They were a common sight in the Binghamton area, working locals and transfers to CP. They were a good match to the 1962 built GP 18's, which also lasted at least til 2006. The NYSW in Utica had one of the more unusual operations in the area, a stretch of street running down Schuyler St. Most of the track in the Utica area NYSW ran was ex DLW, though there was a segment out toward NY Mills and Whitesboro that was ex NYO&W, on of the very few places that there was still active O&W trackage, the road having been completely abandoned in March 1957. If you know where to look, you can still see long stretches of ROW along NY 17 in the Catskills. 6/13/2019 5:47:49 AM
