A CN local crosses the former joint MILW/SOO bridge over the South Channel (Neenah Channel) of the Fox River at Neenah, WI on 8 Mar. '19. Looking east from the new Loop-the-Lake bridge (the ribbon cutting ceremony for this and the similar bridge in Menasha was held 23 Jun. '18). The pair of new bridges are part of Neenah and Menasha's Loop-the-Lake project to connect existing recreational trails in the Twin Cities. This new view of the railroad bridge is interesting, but I will miss the once panoramic view of this bridge from the river bank. The Neenah Paper mill (an active rail customer) and the Kimberly-Clark Corp. Globe Mill and Experimental Mill (X-Mill) are partially visible in the background at right. The Globe Mill is still commonly referred to as K-C's Badger-Globe Mill, although the Badger Mill was torn down ca. 1998. |
