CO 4-8-2 #316 - Chesapeake & Ohio         
This is the Alco-Richmond builder's photo of the first 4-8-2 Mountain type steam locomotive ever built for North American railroads. C&O & Alco worked together to produce this wheel configuration to meet the needs for more power, especially in the Allegheny Mountains, hense the wheel config name. In 1924, the loco was renumbered 540. The class was retired in 1951-52.
