PRR 5802, EP-22, 1960
FSF. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by David R. Sweetland that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in August of 1960. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5802 and another E-8 whose road number is not recorded. Both are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5802 was built in July of 1952. They are about to pass under the 4th Street Footbridge on their way to Harrisburg and points East. Also visible (L to R) are: the now-abandoned building for steam engine helper crews; the water tower for the now defunct steam engine watering point; the 7th Street Bridge; the PRR's Passenger Car Shops; the dome of the Catholic Cathedral in the distance; as well as a westbound mail and express train zipping the other way on the next track over.
