Burlington GP40s 629 and 633
Chicago Burlington and Quincy GP40s 629 and 633 at Minneapolis MN August 1969. The 629 was the first locomotive to wear the Burlington Northern logo when it was painted into the pre merger CBQ scheme in August 1968. The BN logo itself dates back to March 1968 when it was unveiled to the public by Lippencott and Margulies, the same company who designed the Great Northern Big Sky Blue Image in 1967. The CBQ scheme was to be the BN scheme when merger approval came with the word BURLINGTON painted on the cab without the word NORTHERN. The plan was to add that after the merger was approved but this became just another pre merger paint scheme to cover up. Unknown Photographer.
