PRR 1000, "Aerotrain," 1956
Aerotrain. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by John Dziobko, Jr., that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 16 August 1956. Shown here is the Pennsylvania Railroad's "Aerotrain," built by General Motors during July of 1955. After departing Pittsburgh and crossing the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve, it has stopped at the Altoona Passenger Station for a crew change and to discharge/board passengers. Soon, it will pass under the 12th Street Footbridge on its way to Philadelphia and New York City. Note the headlight of the waiting helper engine in the distance.
