It was published originally in the November 1957 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 24. Photo by Philip R. Hastings. Top Photo: Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #4616 and #4243. Both are I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapods." #4616 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in February of 1937, and retired in August of 1959. #4243 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in December of 1943, and retired in March of 1957.

karl Hamilton General They did not poke along on any down hill or straigtaway either. Pittsburgh was always filled with grey smoke and it was bac, smelled like burned coal. People think it romantic but it was gritty, dirty, hard, dangerous work.k. 5/30/2018 2:01:46 PM
