FSF. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during September of 1959. The photographer is not identified. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5865 and two more "EP" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #5865 is an EP-20 built during February of 1948 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 4th Street Footbridge with a mail and express train on their way to Harrisburg and points East. Just behind them are the crew-change building and the water tank, both of which saw service during the good ol' days when steam locomotives were marshaled here to push freights up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to the summit at Gallitzin. |
