Southern NW2 2100
Southern Railway 2100 - its only NW5 and one of only 13 built - was tied up at SLIP JUNCTION, next to the small yard at Chalmette, Louisiana. The locomotive spent most of its life in the New Orleans area, and it was last used in regular passenger service in 1954, on a remnant of Nos. 43 and 44 between New Orleans and Pearl River, Louisiana. Its steam generator was finally removed in 1967 and the louvers under its rear light were removed about five years later, enabling the placement of a large number here. It left New Orleans in 1977 and was retired in 1979.
