PRR "Triple-Header," 1948
AHC. Here is a photo by Bruce D. Fales that was taken near the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 24 July 1948. It was published originally in Mike Schaffer & Brian Solomon's (1997) book entitled "Pennsylvania Railroad," page 22. Photo Caption: "Nearly all freights making the westbound climb out of Altoona were (and still are) assisted by a set of helper locomotives pushing at the hind end of the train. On this day in July 1948, no less than three locomotives ~ two of them running in reverse ~ help a freight achieve the summit." Partially visible at the left is Pennsylvania Railroad N-5 cabin car #477630.
