SP 4-8-4 #4424 - Southern Pacific "The Daylight"  Contributor's Pick!       
Fairly nice original action photo from the A. Parsons' collection of the 1937 Lima built 4-8-4 steam locomotive in action in Los Angeles. Note on the back states "Painted red & orange". lSpecs - class GS-3, 80" drivers, impressive 280 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 267,300 lb, tractive effort of 64,355 lb. The loco was retired and scrapped sometime in the late 1950's.
