C&S 99518
Colorado & Southern Railway auxiliary tender 99518 and CB&Q 2-8-2 Class O-1-A 4960 at Flagg Center, Illinois on June 26, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This was a fantrip from Eola to Oregon and return, featuring 2-8-2 4960 working the Oregon Way Freight. About ten miles east of Oregon was a wye at Flagg Center ( Rochelle is seen in the right background ), where the locomotive was turned for the return trip to Chicago. For the ten miles or so between Flagg Center and Oregon, the trailing combine number 3003, which also served as the regular coach/caboose on the Oregon Way Freight, was coupled next to 4960's smokebox. This resulted in a very crowded vestibule on 3003, with fans literally hanging on. Although the CB&Q had provided a couple of safety officials to control the fans, but they could not get on to the vestibule to shoo us off.
