|Derailment. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 21 May 1965. Shown here (L to R) are the two derailed locomotives, PRR engines #5631 and #8890. Both were built by the American Locomotive Company in 1950 and rated at 1,000 horsepower each. #5631 is an AS-10AM while #8890 is an AS-10. They had just come down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve with a mixed-cargo freight train when they split a switch in the 14th Street Interlocking. Because the train was going fairly slow at the time of the derailment, no one was injured seriously.
