PRR 7185, EFS-17M, 1964
Gallitzin. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, on 13 September 1964. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #7110, #7180-B, #7015, and #7185. All are EFS-17M's built by EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #7110, #7180-B, and #7185 were built in 1957 ~ but #7015 was built in 1955. They are passing under the State Route 53 Bridge with a 97-car coal train on its way down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Altoona and points East. The caboose is #477746. There are also three EMD units coupled to the end of this train, their purpose being to help brake the train on its way down the Mountains. Also visible on the right is the abutment for the original highway bridge.
