|Northbound Coal. Here is a photo of a Pennsylvania Railroad train taken by Philip R. Hastings, 5 May 1957. Shown here is PRR engine #4311, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during 1922 and retired in October of 1959. It is pulling a northbound coal train along with two PRR Diesel locomotives: #8626 and #8620. Both are AS-18M's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each; #8626 was built in 1957, but #8620 was built in 1956. The slide's caption indicates that these three engines are, in effect, towing PRR I-1SA "Decapod" #4632 (the pusher engine) which has become disabled! Photo taken near Columbia Crossroads, Pennsylvania.
