PRR 4311, I-1SA, 1957         
Northbound Coal. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Philip R. Hastings that was taken near Troy, Pennsylvania, on 5 May 1957. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4311, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during November of 1922, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in August of 1934, and retired in October of 1959 after 37 years of faithful service. It is pulling a northbound coal train near Troy. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Steam on the Pennsy's Elmira and Shamokin Branches" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (785-15).
