Baldwin, November, 1948 2000hp According to Wikipedia, these Baldwin locos were produced exclusively for the Pennsylvania Railroad and were delivered in 1948 in the sharknose body style designed by Raymond Loewy. The PRR classified them as BP-20 (Baldwin Passenger, 2,000 horsepower or 1,500 kilowatts). They were originally used on top-flight express trains such as the Broadway Limited, but problems soon relegated them to lesser service. They ended their days on commuter trains along the New York and Long Branch in New Jersey. G.E. Lloyd photo

Robert Beichler General Very nice shot of a rarity, they are some of the best looking diesels ever built. The passenger and freight units had trouble at high speed, they tended to leak badly. They finished their lives in what they did best, low speed brute power. They could start and move more tonnage than any other engines of their time. 9/8/2016 8:54:17 PM
Alan Fricker General Always liked the design. 9/9/2016 9:24:29 PM
Robert Farkas General Great looking locomotive - It is too bad they did not run as well as they looked. 9/10/2016 3:07:21 PM
