UP 4-8-4 #807 - Union Pacific  Contributor's Pick!       
Excellent example of a Alco-Schenectady built 4-8-4 Northern type locomotive delivered to Union Pacific a year earlier in September of 1937. Delivered as coal burners as shown in the specs, the FEFs were converted to oil burning in 1946. These engines were reported as frequently running at above 100 mph (161 kph). Specifics - builder #68815, FEF-1 class, 77" drivers, impressive 300 psi boiler pressure, 24.5x32" cylinders, engine weight of 460,640 lb, tractive effort of 63611 lb. The class was retired between 1954-61 with #807 in June of 1956. unknown photographer
