PRR 5898, EP-22, 1965
Excursion. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 17 October 1965. Shown here are four PRR passenger engines. The lead locomotive is #5898, an EP-22 built by EMD in 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. Also visible are the first two cars of the very first "Horseshoe Curve Excursion" sponsored by the Lancaster Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. In this photo, the tracks occupy the original right-of-way for the Allegheny Portage Railroad between Hollidaysburg and Duncansville. This train is on its way to surmount the Allegheny Mountains visible in the distance.
