RFP 4-8-2 #502 - Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac  Contributor's Pick!       
Parked next to the rim of the turntable is this 1924 Alco-Richmond built 4-8-2 Mountain type locomtoive. This was a class 501 with an original number was 201 but immediately renumbered to 502. Specs - 73" drivers, 28x30" cylinders, 200 psi boiler pressure but (boosted later to 225 psi), engine weight of 381,000 lb, tractive effort of 61,619 lb. The four in the class lasted until 1950 when they were scrapped. Unknown photographer
