UP 63
On June 26th, 1982, Union Pacific SD45 63 sits in pieces as it receives an overhaul at the railroads Salt Lake City diesel shops. UP SD45s 60-65 were rebuilt by Morrison_Knudsen in Boise, Idaho, during 1980 to 1982 with Sulzer diesel engines from Switzerland as part of a test program. Look carefully at the carbody below the gaping hole in the long hood, and you can see where the carbody was widened by another two inches. UP 63 was built by EMD in April 1968 as UP 3613. It was later renumbered to UP 13, in October 1978. On July 8th, 1999, the engine would be renumbered once again to UP 4758.

Tony Fernandez General Great shot with lots of detail for modeling this unit. I think it had yellow handrails from the time when the UP used yellow handrails to designate yard units (road units had white handrails). Slug S-1, the former GP9B #176B , perhaps was mated to this SD45 for a time. 5/30/2017 9:41:13 AM
