The face of one of the last steam locomotives built in the US. This 1948 Lima built Northern type (Greenbrier according to the C&O) was built for pulling fast passenger trains through the mountains, a job it did very well but for a short time. Specifics - class J-3a, 74" drivers, 255 psi, 27.5x30" cylinders, engine weight of 482,200 lb, tractive effort of 66,453 lb. unknown photographer
