SP 2-10-2 #3767 - Southern Pacific  Contributor's Pick!
Nice looking example of a Baldwin Santa Fe type locomotive, SP #3767, built by Baldwin in March of 1924 just sitting quietly n the West Oakland yard. In most respects, this class' design repeated the F-5s, but their fireboxes had 110 sq ft (10.2 sq m) more heating surface area thanks to the inclusion of 116 sq ft in three Nicholson thermic syphons. Their addition increased adhesion weight by less than 1,000 lb. Most of the F-5s were leased to the Texas & New Orleans lines, where they worked until retirement in 1949-1956. This loco was "vacated" in January of 1953 and scrapped later in March of 1953. Specifics - F-5 class thermic syphon, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 29.5x32" cylinders, engine weight of 409,900 lb, tractive effort of 75,145 lb. No photographer listed.
