Westbound by the lock  Contributor's Pick!       
Because the NYS Barge Canal-the Erie Canal-follows the Mohawk River so closely from Amsterdam to Utica, the tracks are never far away. One such place is Cranesville, near Amsterdam. The locks are open to the public, and make a great picnic spot, and a great place to watch the trains, such as this 125 car westbound rolling past Lock 10
