BNSF Transfer Job Y-BIR104 passing through 12th Avenue in Birmingham, Al. on their way to interchange with NS at North Yard before returning back to East Thomas Yard with a pair of blue & white GP38-2s lettered for BNSF, nicknamed Smurfs for their blue & white paint scheme, the 2048 is a former MKT/EMDX GP40 rebuilt to GP38-2 specifications & the 2046 is a former Penn Central/Conrail/GMTX GP38-2
