SP #290         
Built in 1950 by Budd in Lot #9624-040 as SP Class 83-D-3 48 seat diner #10214, 1 of 6 such cars (#10210-#10215) built in that Lot for the SUNSET LIMITED; the Lot was ordered in June 1948, cars were delivered between June and July 1950. On the SUNSET LIMITED, dining and lounge cars were known by theme names: these 6 diners were the AUDUBON cars, the Class 83-L-2 club lounges were the FRENCH QUARTER cars, and the Class 83-DL-2 diner-(hamburger grill)-club lounges were the PRIDE OF TEXAS cars. In 1971, Amtrak acquired 5 of these 6 cars as #8060-#8064, 3 of these 5 cars were later converted to HEP and are still active; SP retained the #10214, which was renumbered in 1974 to #290. UP donated the #290 to CSRM in May 1998, along with FRENCH QUARTER club lounge #2987/#291. EXIF: 1:31 PM, f/3 @ 1/350
