Formerly GN baggage-express-rider #474, which was rebuilt from 8S sleeper buffet lounge solarium observation #1021 MIDLAND HILLS CLUB, 1 of 2 Plan #4025D cars acquired by GN at the 12/31/1948 Pullman divestiture, the other was #1020 MANITOBA CLUB. Both the MIDLAND HILLS CLUB and MANITOBA CLUB were rebuilt in 1935 from Plan #2521 10S sleeper lounge observations. The MIDLAND HILLS CLUB was formerly the MIRAFLORES (Lot #4049, 1912), and the MANITOBA CLUB was formerly the EL CIBOLA (Lot #4202, 1913). Jerry LaBoda General These cars were called baggage - express - rider because the rear brakeman would rid the car at the end of the train so he could close switches along the train's route. The conductor would have remained in the forward part of the consist since he was in charge of the train. 7/21/2014 10:36:45 PM
