Amtrak Station
Amtrak Station Reno, NV - plaque on the entrance: "1864 : 1964 V&T 1869-1950 - Reno was the north terminus of the Virginia and Truckee RR built by Comstock Bonanza Kings, the Reno-Carso City link was built in 1871-72, connecting to Virginia City. Traffic diminished as the mines declined and the V&T was abandoned in 1950. Nevada Centennial Marker No. 20. Sponsor: Daughters of the American Colonists." If you go, the El Dorado offers really good rates and is the hotel-casino visible in the background, just a couple blocks from the station. (Who says I cant be bought off with even a small discount for an advertising plug? Seriously, though, it was a very nice room and place to stay with shockingly low rates.)
