The fireman of this 1925 Alco-Schenectady built "Overland-type" (or better known as "Southern Pacific-type") locomotive looks ready to pull out with its freight in tow from an unidentified yard, possibly Roseville, CA. Specifics - SP-1 class, 63.5" drivers, oil burner, generated a boiler pressure of 225 psi for its three sets of cylinders (low & high pressure), an engine weight of 445,000 lb and produced a tractive effort of 86,589 lb. According to several resources, the locomotive was an excellent performer at speeds between 30-35 mph but suffered maintenance problems at higher speeds and too rigid to perform well on the sinuous curves of Donner pass, but excelled on the Sunset Route east of LA.
