PRR Ballast Cleaner  Contributor's Pick!
Here is an action shot of a 1939 Brownhoist ballast cleaner in action. Must be the foreman in the front watching some action in front as the rest of the crew works alongside the unit. Can anyone explain what the purpose of the reel of wire stretching from the front of the unit is? No photographer listed.

Stu Nicholson General What a beast! 5/25/2014 11:09:04 AM
Dave Korhammer General It appears that, since this equipment was not self-powered, the cable might be for slow movement via towing. 5/28/2014 7:04:30 PM
Robert Farkas General This looks like a double exposure because the catenary post seems to be a part of the cleaner itself. 5/28/2014 8:27:45 PM
