FEC E3A #1002 - Florida East Coast  Contributor's Pick!
A couple of admiring visitors view the new pair of 2000 hp E3A's built in 1939. According to Railwayclassics.com, "The inauguration of the Henry M. Flagler and The Champion in December of 1939 is frequently recognized as the beginning of dieselization on the Florida East Coast. Power chosen for each of the six car trains was EMC's early, slant-nose 2000 horsepower E3 units, numbered 1001 and 1002." The photo of the two E3A's - 1001 labeled "Henry M. Flagler and 1002 labeled "The Champion" - was taken by an unknown photographer.

Mike Woodruff General Great pic - thanks for scanning and posting it. Pretty sure the original H. M. Flagler and Champion trains were each seven car consists; baggage/dorm, four coaches, diner, and tavern lounge/obsv. Also, C&NW 240 and 244 were indeed ex-FEC, but they were FP7s, not these E3s. 5/22/2014 10:52:13 AM
Fred Stuckmann General Very nice. 5/23/2014 9:30:52 PM
