Eastbound Run-Through Train
In the early 1970's the Southern Pacific would frequently combine the Houston-L&N-Birmingham and Houston-L&N-Chattahoochee-SCL-Jacksonville run-through trains at Avondale Yard, at the west end of the Huey P. Long Bridge, and deliver this to the L&N as one very long train. Here is one such train, stopped at the east end of the bridge, with nine engines: L&N GP35 1127, Auto-Train U36B's 4005 and 4007 (both new and on lease to the L&N), L&N GP38-2 4052, SP GP20 4069, SCL GP40 1567, SCL U30B's 1718 and 1717, and SCL GP35 1409 (approximate month and day)
