EMDX GM6C 1975 - Electro-Motive Division of General Motors  Contributor's Pick!
Built in 1975 (hence its number) as an experiment to test feasibility of building electric locomotives for the electrified section of the Penn Central whose aging locos would need replacing. This was also at the height of the oil price increase making railroads consider the fuel savings between electric and diesel locomotives. The loco looks like some kind of strange mutation between a diesel and a trolley car! Note an aging GG! behind #1975. Unknown photographer and approximate location.
