Jefferson Avenue Interlocking
For most of the twentieth century, the double track lines of the IC/ICG and the New Orleans Public Belt ran side-by-side along the Mississippi River from Lambert Junction in Jefferson Parish to Race Street Junction, a distance of 7.4 miles. For most of the way, the NOPB tracks were on the riverside of the IC/ICG; but between Jefferson Avenue Interlocking and Harmony Street Interlocking, two miles, the roads swapped positions. Here is ICG southbound piggyback train P-55 crossing over the NOPB at Jefferson Avenue, about a mile from its destination at the railroad's intermodal ramp at Stuyvesant Docks Yard. Today's train has an especially eclectic mixture of power: GP10 8249, GP11 8734 and SD20 2001. The freight cars on the left are in the NOPB's Cotton Warehouse Yard.
