ATSF 4-8-2 #2929 - Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe  Contributor's Pick!
Built by Baldwin during WWII (1944), this Northern type locomotive may be the heaviest passenger locomotive ever built since heavier steel had to be used instead of some of the less dense alloys in short supply. This Northern type locomotive had tall 80" drivers and produced a whopping 300 psi boiler pressure. The class was retired in 1959 after a short 15 years service. A J. W. Hulsman photo.
