More crossties used for a retaining wall, looking west  Contributor's Pick!
Even though this picture was taken in August 1987, apparently there had been a dry spell in WV--take a look at the trees, already beginning to change to fall colors. There are other old crossties being used as a retaining wall but notice how C&O used lengths of old rail, driving them into the ground, as supports. There is also a stairway, of sorts, leading from the road to the tracks--notice the handrail, looking like a couple lengths of 1 X 6 boards attached to some 2 X 4's. This view looks north-west, and US 60 is the road in the foreground.
