Chicago & Eastern Illinois 4-6-2 #1008  Contributor's Pick!
Shrouded in a streamlined shell with its bold, wide "racing" stripe, C&EI #1008 looks great with the fireman casually leaning out the window. Built by Baldwin in 1911 as a class K-2 Pacific-type loco, it had 73" drivers, engine+tender wheelbase of 67.34' and an engine weight of 263,600 lb. Bet it was a beautiful sight flying down the trackes! Not sure but the photographer may have been Tom Mohiz of Chicago - that or a previous owner of the photo.
