C&NW H-16-66 1906
Chicago & North Western Railway H-16-66 1906 at Proviso, Illinois on February 14, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 1906 was built in June 1956 (c/n 16L1031), the last locomotive that Fairbanks-Morse delivered to the C&NW. This unit shows the 'Phase II' styling of what became known as the 'Baby Train Master'. It has drop-equalizer trucks, a restyled carbody and radiator section (creating a steps in the running board bridged by a plate), and uses GE electrical equipment (as opposed the Westinghouse electrical equipment in the earlier style). Partial views of the 'Phase I' (Loewy) style H-16-66 can be seen on either side of 1906. The C&NW amassed a fleet of 51 H-16-66's; 25 Loewy-style, and 26 Baby Train Masters.
