SOU GP30R 2641
Southern Railway GP30R 2641 in the hole at Middleton, Tennessee on April 3, 1984, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 2641 may or may not be a GP35. It started as a GP30 that was wrecked and repaired by EMD. See comment below, thanks Jim.

Jim Bruce General 2641 is a GP30R as this is what GM/EMD called it. Unit was Wrecked in 1965 and as GP35s were still being made it was given a GP35 Carbody. This unit also went on to be painted for NS and was Retired in september 1991 and sold to RJ. Cormans in 1992. Its now on Public Display in TN where as of August 2012, My Uncle has now seen this unit in person (though sadly he did not have a working camera at the time), and told me that the builders plate said GP30R with a (Re)Build date of 1965. Unit was one of 2 GP30Rs on SOU, the other was 2526. Here is 2526 in NS paint:http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3023152. 12/7/2012 3:20:09 PM
Michael Eby General Whatever 2641 was called, it was not just a GP30 with a GP35 carbody. Although I don't know how many GP30 components it reused, structurally it was a GP35 from the ground up - new frame (straight beam with higher deck height), new fuel tank, new steps/pilot and new cab/hood. 12/10/2018 6:35:11 PM
