American Freedom Train 40
American Freedom Train Exhibition Car 40 on Illinois Street below Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Illinois on July 27, 1975, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Car 40 contained a model of the B&O 'Arabian' steam locomotive, the Friendship Fire Engine from George Washington's fire company, and a 1904 Oldsmobile Runabout 'The Old Scout' that won the first transcontinental auto race. . The car was a former NYC baggage car. This was a switching move. The steam locomotive power (AFT 1) was cut off and C&NW MP15DC 1306 pulled the AFT from C&NW's 40th Street yard to Navy Pier for a couple of days of public viewing. Even though it was a switching move, the AFT was lit up and on display for all to see, in this case a couple of Chicago Tribune employees.
