AMTK 526
PURCELL OK July 29 1979 -- Amtrak SDP40F 526 leads the northbound Lone Star as it transitions from Northern Division to Middle Division. Note peculiar font used in fireman-side number board. At the right in the photo is the sanding tower of the abandoned engine facility. EMD built the 526 (s/n 72694-27) in June-July 1973. Santa Fe acquired the locomotive, rebuilt it as an SDF40-2, renumbered it 5255 and painted it yellow warbonnet. In April 1994 it underwent maintenance at Morison Knudsen. On Feb 11 1998 it was patched BNSF and renumbered 6965. It was retired in May 2002.
