MTSX 142  Contributor's Pick!       
The ArcelorMittal plant passes by my vantage point on the walkway above the NS/IHB/EJE tracks. Note the darkened windows of the cab. Anyone know if that is on purpose or from passing by sooty locations?

Steve Young General Since the side of the hood doesn't appear to be suffering from too much soot, I would say the darkened windows are treated in order to prevent the cab from becoming too hot when passing close to furnaces or ovens. Other steel mill switchers often had the windows blanked out completely, which didn't matter greatly, since they were mostly (like this one) remote control. 12/28/2018 3:56:35 AM
