AMTK 6061
Sixty-seat-coach 6061 was manufactured by the St. Louis Car Co. as Union Pacific 44-seat coach 5493, one of 20 cars (5488-5507) built between February and September 1960 in SLC Lot No. 1807. Three of the cars became Great Northern 1008-1010 in 1969, and then Amtrak 4550-4552. Fourteen other went directly to Amtrak and were assigned numbers 4554-4567. This car was originally assigned Amtrak number 4556, but it was remodeled with 60 seats and became the 6061 instead. In 1973-74 Amtrak increased the capacity on about 20 coaches to 60 seats, but this one was the only one for this group that was altered. The 6061 car was sold to Ringling Brothers and became RBBX 43001, but 12 of the cars in the 4550-4567 series were upgraded into 4600-series Heritage Fleet coaches. Photographed on the PANAMA LIMITED.
