Rare Catch
A very rare and old Alco sits in Mankato where it now works for a scrap dealer. Bob and I will probably be the last people to get this close to this unit as for the company who owns the land surrounding this unit were putting up an electrical fence to keep people out. Had we shown up just a bit later, this shot would not have been possible. A big thanks goes to Dean for finding out this units history. It used to be EJE 211, and is an Alco HH660. Talk about a rare find!

Jacob Nelson General Well good to see it doesn't need tracks to run ;) 11/13/2010 9:24:16 AM
Joe Musolf General Ah yes, I've gotten many good pictures of this old unit, perhaps I'll scan some and put them up someday. Nice shot though! 12/12/2010 11:10:38 PM
Matt Demuth General I work at the company that owns this unit. We are very glad to have people stop in to see and photograph the unit. May even offer a ride. Do it soon as the unit will be replaced by an EMD shortly. Matt 12/21/2010 1:34:12 PM
Matt Demuth General One other thing. If you do stop in make sure to check in at the front office. Also our S4 9004 is no longer running and will probably be scraped in the near future. Cylinder liners are all shot. 12/21/2010 1:36:06 PM
Patrick Smith General Matt, if you still read these comments, see if your company would consider donating the units to amuseum or NRHS chapter. That is, if the poor things haven't given up the ghost already. 1/31/2011 3:07:20 AM
Matt Demuth General Patrick, the HH660 will be kept as a back up unit for now. Our NW2 has arrived and is being set up, so the 604 is still being used to switch as of 3-3-11. We have had some inquiries about donating the HH660, but the company seems to be unwilling to do that at the present time. 3/3/2011 10:22:23 AM
K Dawg General Can't believe that she's still running after all these years. Who would've thought she'd outlive the "J" itself? 10/27/2012 8:25:51 PM
Patrick Smith General Hi again, Matt! It's been a few years; I must have missed your last comment somehow. Is this old girl still around somewhere? 8/8/2014 4:00:54 AM
