Holcim Cement no1  Contributor's Pick!
Holcim Cement SW1 no1 sits on the siding along the BNSF at the Clarksville plant, which is located just north of Clarksville MO at a point called Dundee by the railroad. The plant was opened by Dundee Cement Co in 1967, became Holnam Cement in 1988 and Holcim in 2001. The 71 year-old SW1 was built for the Burlington and served for a stint with the Missouri & Illinois Bridge & Belt RR at Alton before returning to the CB&Q. It was given number 76 by the BN, retired in 9/70 and sold to Dundee Cement for this location. Over the following 40 some-odd years it received roller bearings, replacement headlights and a white paint job whose stripes vaguely follow what it wore while in Burlington switcher black. Holcim announced the closure of the Clarksville plant in 2009; it has also had an SW900 and several side-rod GEs here over the years. The last GE appears to have left for points unknown while the SW900 was still present at the dead plant as of mid-2014.
