Only fitting that we catch an auto rack train passing by the former Fleetwood Metal Body company. The Fleetwood Historical Society has recently restored the original paint on the building. Started April 1st 1909 Fleetwood Metal Body built custom car bodys until its acquisition by the General Motors, Fisher Body Company. Fisher operated the plant at Fleetwood unit 1931 when it was moved to Detroit. The plant at Fleetwood produced its fine "Built-to-Order" car bodys for many notable people including Rudolph Valentino. The Fleetwood heritage continued through the years with production of the Cadillac Fleetwood that was only recently discontinued. |
